Four Queenslanders spent the weekend pressing their claims for a call-up to the Pararoos squad for this month’s World Championships Qualification Tournament in Denmark.
David Barber (pictured), Robert Christie, Jared Eiby and Stacey Sarago-Ah Kee joined 14 other hopefuls in Sydney on Friday for a three-day training camp with head coach Kai Lammert.
The final squad will contest the World Championships Qualification Tournament from 29 July to 7 August, with eight of the 13 competing nations to qualify for the 2017 World Championships in Argentina.
Rockhampton product Barber captained the Pararoos at the 2015 World Championships while Christie and Eiby are both national team regulars.
“Our goal is to qualify for Argentina next year and further develop our playing style and system of play,” Lammert told footballaustralia.com.au.
“We are also trying to add more tactical variety to our game.”
Australia has been grouped alongside Scotland and Spain for the qualification tournament and must finish inside the top two in the group to reach Argentina.
The opening ceremony and match will take place on 29 July and will be streamed live as well as on demand on the tournament website.
